Setting up locations and sublocations for multilocation inventory tracking


Setting up location and sublocations for multi warehouse inventory tracking is the first step to enable Finale to track inventory in multiple warehouses.  Inventory management gets a little more challenging when you need to support multiple warehouse locations. Logistically, this can be overwhelming but inventory management software can help make working with multiple locations more manageable.  Companies with multiple warehouses often need to move inventory between them.

Locations in the software are representative of a physical location that normally has a street address or a virtual location to represent a separate business segment or operation (e.g Drop Shipping or External Order fulfillment like Amazon FBA.)  Stock levels are stored in sublocations associated to the Locations. The Location name in Finale Inventory organizes and groups stock sublocations together.

A sublocation in Finale Inventory are representative of a stock storage location. The can be synonymous to a bin number, shelf number, rack, pallet location, closet, sub-area of a warehouse, truck, retail location, tent, or virtual business operation like “RMA” or “RETURNS” or “DAMAGE”. A sublocation is a storage location that may represent the entire building or a smaller area of the building or business process.

After setting locations and sublocations for multilocation inventory tracking, you are now ready to import the initial stocks counts.

Hi, this is Chinh from Finale Inventory. In this session, we’re gonna set locations and sublocations within the system. So, let’s open up Finale and when you wanna set up sublocations locations is under application settings and click on facility. Essentially, Finale is able to keep track of your stock in multiple locations and sublocations and it’s really hierarchy.

Location is, you know, the high-level hierarchy and this could be buildings and typically they have their own address. And within each location, you’re gonna keep track of your stock in multiple sublocations, you know, smaller parts of the building might have been multiple sections. They could be base, room, shelf, aisles.

In this example, you have basically the main warehouse here. And under the main warehouse, you have two places, sublocations where you’re keeping track of inventory, S1, and S2. Let’s say your Finale can keep track of multiple locations, let’s just say you had another warehouse. Let’s call it the warehouse in, you know, Oregon, for example. You just type in the address here. And then, again, this is all optional in terms of the address, but it was for completeness.

If you wanna keep track of your stock in Oregon, you also have to have at least one sublocation. Well, let’s say you have, you know, three base areas that you can make a B1 and just type in Oregon here. B2, type in Oregon. And B3, and lastly type in Oregon.

So, after I do this,, we’re keeping track of basically inventory in five different sublocations, two of which are stored at the main warehouse, S1, and S2, and then the Oregon warehouse, we’re keeping track of your stock at B1, B2, and B3.
