Printing QR Code Labels Using Finale Inventory

Due to its ability to store significant amounts of data and smartphone equipped to read them, QR Code has growing popularity over the years.  Finale has the ability to generate QR Codes so there no need to purchase another application to print these labels.  Finale removes the complexity by creating a QR or Quick Response label. If custom QR code are required, simply contact us with the QR code dimensions and product information desired on each QR Code, and our staff will create a QB label for your products. We want to make the QR code process as simple and painless as possible.

Do your items have serial numbers or lot IDs? No problem. Finale generate a unique QR Code that is a combination of product id, lot id (and packing.) When the product is scanned, Finale is able to recognize both the product id and lot information from a single QR Code.

QR Codes can be used to replace any 1D barcode label or document barcode, such as Product ID, Lot ID, Serial Number, Sublocation, or Order labels.

What Are QR Codes

A QR code or Quick Response Code is a type of barcode that can be read easily by a digital device and stores information using patterns of black dots and white spaces arranged in a square grid.  Invented in 1994 by Denso Wave, a Toyota subsidiary, a QR code is similar to any other barcode in which it stores information in machine-readable optical labels.

QR codes are frequently used to track information about products in a supply chain and – because many smartphones have built-in QR readers – they are often used in marketing and advertising campaigns.  These patterns can be scanned and translated into human-readable information, with the help of an imaging device, like a camera or a scanner.

How Are QR Codes Different from UPC labels

Compared to UPC barcode labels, QR codes have a few advantages.  Standard barcodes can only be read in one direction – top to bottom. That means they can only store a small amount of information, usually in an alphanumeric format. But a QR code is read in two directions – top to bottom and right to left. This allows it to house significantly more data.  If the data you want to store in a QR code is made of only alphanumeric characters, a single QR code can hold up to 4000 characters.

Additionally, since QR codes store data in both directions (horizontal and vertical), these codes can be scanned at any angle to be decoded.   This differs from a UPC/EAN label which one dimensional and only stores the data horizontally.  As a result, grocery store workers would be to scan the UPC code on a cereal box from left to right to properly read the information.
